The Sunday Dread Audit
The Sunday Dread Audit
There's a specific feeling. Sunday, about 6pm, the sun's still out, and your stomach drops because tomorrow is Monday.
If your best people are getting that feeling every single week, you don't have a Monday problem, you have a culture problem, and it will cost you your top performers before it costs you anything else.
Sunday dread in sales and hospitality specifically...
Your best salespeople and your best hospitality staff have options. They are not desperate. They are not stuck. The moment the dread outweighs the pay cheque, they're gone, usually to a competitor who's quietly been circling for months.
The average performers might stick it out. The brilliant ones won't, because they know their own worth.
So how do you actually check whether this is happening, rather than just hoping it isn't?
Ask yourself honestly: when did someone last leave and surprise you? Not the ones you saw coming, the ones where you thought everything was fine right up until the resignation email landed.
That surprise is the tell. It means people had already checked out mentally long before they told you, and nobody was close enough to notice.
Look at your last three exits.
Was there a pattern in what they said, or more tellingly, what they didn't say in the exit conversation? "It's just time for a change" from three different people in six months isn't a coincidence, it's a script people use when they don't trust you enough to tell you the real reason.
And ask your current team the honest question, not in a survey nobody trusts, in a proper conversation: what would make you leave tomorrow if you got the offer?
The answers will tell you more in ten minutes than any engagement survey ever will.
We run a free culture and retention audit for exactly this reason. Not a sales pitch dressed up as a favour, an honest look at whether your Monday is the problem or your whole week is.
